How to Clean an Electric Coffee Mill Thoroughly

If you have a home coffee mill, this is a good way to clean it so that you can use it to grind other things, such as spices or pet food kibble for sick pets. This method gets rid of all the coffee grounds and coffee-flavored oils.

Clean out the coffee mill with a clean brush, such as a new 1" paintbrush. Brush out the inside and the cover of the coffee mill. Get as much coffee out as you can. Be sure to get underneath the blades -- a lot of ground coffee hides in there.

Dry white rice
Dry white rice
Place 1 tablespoon of dry uncooked rice in the mill.

Grind the rice to a powder.
4. Throw away (or compost) the rice powder.

6. Grind the rice to a powder.
7. Throw away the rice powder.
8. Clean out the remaining rice powder with the brush.

Put the (non-coffee) item to be ground in the coffee mill.
10. Grind it to a powder.
11. Repeat until you have as much ground stuff as you think you'll need.
12. Clean out the coffee mill twice with rice as described above.

If you have a sick pet, you may need to feed it moistened, ground kibble. If you have an electric coffee mill, you can clean it as described above, and then use it to grind the kibble.
* Have some knowledge of what you will be grinding. Some things, like cloves, can damage the plastic.
